Donald C. Nemec, Texas family law attorney

About the attorney

Donald C. Nemec

18 years of Texas family law. 40+ counties across the state. Based in Coppell — centrally located to serve all of DFW.

I've been practicing Texas family law for 18 years. My practice covers divorce, child custody, child support, modifications, enforcement, adoption, and guardianship — and I've appeared in more than 40 counties across Texas. In North Texas, I'm in Tarrant, Dallas, Denton, and Collin county courts regularly.

I built this practice around a belief that I've held since the beginning: hiring a lawyer shouldn't feel like a $5,000 gamble. The traditional model — large retainer, hourly billing, no idea what you'll owe until the invoice lands — works for lawyers. It doesn't work for families trying to protect their kids and their futures while keeping the lights on.

My answer to that is the $500 Case Review & Plan of Action. Before you commit to anything beyond that, I review your situation in full, run background checks on both parties, and sit down with you one-on-one to build a written strategy — what to do, in what order, with a flat-fee quote for each step. After that, you pay as you go. You always know the price before the work begins. No retainer to exhaust, no surprise invoices, no hourly meter.

If I think you don't need a lawyer, the plan will say so.

One thing I want to be direct about: the lawyer who builds your plan is the lawyer on your case. All legal strategy, document drafting, and courtroom work is mine. Maddie keeps your case moving day-to-day — she's exceptional at it — but when it matters legally, that's me, not an associate, not a screener.

Community

Outside the courtroom, I helped launch a charter school district and served as its Chairman and President. I'm currently on the board of a 9-campus charter district for at-risk teens. I also volunteer with Legal Aid of NorthWest Texas.

Madison "Maddie" Todd

Paralegal

Maddie has 8+ years in the legal field and is a graduate of National Paralegal College. She handles case management, document preparation, and client coordination. She's the reason cases move — when something is due, scheduled, or sent, it's usually Maddie who makes it happen.

When your case moves, it's usually Maddie who tells you first.

"Mr. Nemec takes the time to truly listen […] His communication is exceptional — fast, clear, and thoughtful. His office staff is equally kind, responsive, and organized."
